Pins, Clips and Rivets

R Clips, also known as R Keys, R Pins or Hitch Pins. Often used to secure ends of round shafts such as clevis pins or axles. Re-usable and made from A2 grade stainless steel, they can be viewed as a better option than split pins as they are easier to remove whilst essentially doing the same job.

Spring cotter pins, also known as R clips with a double loop. The extra loop gives more flexibility than the regular cotter pin, making them easier to use and adjust. Often used to secure ends of round shafts such as clevis pins or axles. They are re-usable and are easier to remove than split pins. Made from A2 (304) stainless steel, they are suitable for marine and outdoor applications, such as securing canopy frames and other ship deck mounted items. Conforms to DIN 11024.

Clevis Pins are used to allow rotation between connected parts about the Axis of the pin. Our Clevis Pins are unthreaded and consist of a head section, shanked body and a drilled hole across the shank. Used in conjunction with split pins or cotter pins to fix the Clevis in place. Uses include Agricultural Machinery, Towing, Sailing and Linkages. All dimensions are approximate.

Cotter Pins, also known as Split Pins are designed to be inserted through a hole and bent to secure in place, they are commonly made from wire which is semi-circular in cross section and square cut at the end, other specialist end finishes include Mitre or Bevel. Lengths are measured from the end of the tines to the point the base of the eyelet hole contacts with the host material. An unthreaded fastener solution for single use, as bending fatigue can cause failure if re-used.

Cotter rings, also known as split cotter rings, kick-out rings and retaining rings. These are made from A4 marine grade stainless steel and are durable and corrosion resistant. Designed for attaching and securing items and for use with clevis pins. They are easily removable and fast to install. Insert the end outside the circle into a hole on the item it's attaching to and wind it on.

Linch pins, also known as lynch pins. Strong and durable A4 stainless steel ring used for mooring ropes and chains, diving gear and saddlery. Also referred to as linch pins with O ring.

Dowel Pins or Parallel Pins are short cylindrical sections of metal used for precise alignment of machine parts and mould tools. They are often also used as reference points for mechanical engineers to ensure repeatable and accurate assemblies. The diameter of these parts is produced to a specific tolerance so that the desired fit can be achieved with a suitably sized and toleranced hole. In this case the ISO fit code is m6.

Extractable dowel pins with an internal metric thread. Extractable dowel pins are a type of parallel pin, also known as a pull dowel pin. These pins are typically used for locating and aligning components in tools, moulds and jigs, and feature an internal thread to help with their removal again when required. These extractable dowel pins are toleranced to an m6 fit. They may include a slight flat along their length for air release. The internal thread size varies by pin diameter but is always a standard metric coarse pitch.

Standard large flange head open blind rivets are the most widely used type of rivet. The wide diameter of the head is larger than that of the standard sized domed head rivet, so increases the bearing area. The large flange head open blind rivets are designed to be used in situations with low load-bearing requirements, such as thin or delicate materials. Dome head peel type blind rivets are designed to be used with soft or low resistance materials and are ideal for connecting soft materials to harder materials. Use with plastics, rubber, laminates, wood, GRP, plasterboard and sheet metals. As the rivet is compressed to create a fixing, the body of the rivet splits into 4 and curls down to grip into the surface, giving a wide bearing area. Blind rivets can be also known as breakstem rivets.

The tightening torque specifications are guide values depending on the material of the original component and must be checked by testing the component.

Slotted roll pins are a heavy duty type of self retaining pin, where the spring steel they are made from allows the pin to sit in tension within the hole that they are fitted into. Slotted roll pins are also known as slotted spring pins, tension pins, split dowel pins and hollow spring pins. Conform to ISO 8752 / DIN 1481.

Spiral roll pins are similar to the slotted roll pin, but are constructed from a spiral of steel, forming a tube shape. These are stronger than the single coil of the rolled slotted pin, exerting pressure more evenly around it circumference, which helps to absorb vibrations better. These are also known as coiled spring pins and conform to ISO 8750.

External circlips are also known as retaining rings for shafts or C-clips. Made from spring or stainless steel, circlips are clipped into place using specific circlip pliers or a taper. On a shaft, circlips are used to lock components such as gears, pulleys and bearings into place. These circlips are designed to fit into a groove cut to a specific size on a shaft.

Internal circlips are also known as retaining rings for bores. Made from spring or stainless steel, internal circlips are used to retain components such as bearings into place within the bore. Internal circlips are located into a groove of a certain depth within the bore hole.

E clips are a type of circlip, and are designed for fitment into a mating groove on a shaft or tube. E clips can be used in pairs to help locate other components in place and prevent them from moving along the shaft when the assembly is turning or spinning. As the E clip is pressed into the groove on fitting, it will spread open and grip the shaft between its three points. E-clips are also known as E type circlips, or E rings. E Clips are sized by the diameter of shaft or groove that they are designed to fit.
