Hex Bolts

Commonly referred to as a setscrew or simply as a bolt. The fully threaded DIN 933 or ISO 4017 should not be confused with its DIN 931 equivalent. A standard spanner or ratchet is typically used to fit this product. Used for decades on all types of assembly throughout the world. As with the DIN 931 hex bolt, the hex drive allows a higher torque to be applied. All parts are to DIN 933 except where shown otherwise. The alternative standard ISO 4017 specifies differences in head dimensions for M10, M12 and M14 thread diameters from DIN 933. Please note that due to manufacturing limitations, all nylon variants of these items are only "similar to" and not "in absolute accordance with" the standard specified.

Popularly used in all assemblies, a standard hex bolt is a staple across the world. Manufactured to ISO 4014 or DIN 931, and therefore includes an unthreaded section of the shaft. A metric fine thread version of the common DIN 933 / ISO 4017 hexagon head set screw. Fine pitch variant screws have some distinct advantages over their coarse pitch counterparts. Size for size they are stronger than the coarse thread versions "in tension" as there is a larger stress (contact) area. They also have a larger minor diameter meaning shear is less likely. Fine Pitch set screws have less tendancy to loosen as they have a much smaller thread incline. Fine pitch bolts should be preferred if being used to adjust settings, as they give closer, more precise control. Some downsides of using Fine pitch bolts or screws are they are slower to install, so not ideal where quick fitment and removal are required and they are also more likely to suffer from thread galling (see our reference section).

The DIN 6921 or EN 1665 flange bolt is a hexagon headed bolt or screw incorporating a flange, negating the need for a washer. Flange bolts are a more attractive alternative to their DIN 931 and DIN 933 hex driven counterparts. Typically used where the flange offers protection for the bolted component and where the driving tool may otherwise scratch its surface. Generally manufactured with a full thread, though occasionally some stock may include a partially threaded shank. This variant includes serrations under the head.

Flange bolts are a more attractive alternative to their DIN 931 and DIN 933 hex driven counterparts. Typically used where the flange offers protection for the bolted component and where the driving tool may otherwise scratch its surface. Generally manufactured with a full thread, though occasionally some stock may include a partially threaded shank. This variant is plain, unserrated under the head.

Unbrako Durlok® self locking, anti vibration hex head flange bolts. These are serrated flanged hex head bolts, which can be paired with the Unbrako Durlok® self locking serrated flanged nut. They both have a high tensile strength of 12.9 and a black oxide/self coloured finish. These heavy duty fasteners are suitable for situations where vibration and jarring occurs and where the joint is subject to high loads. They can be reused, as they are unlikely to be damaged by the adjoining surfaces. Durlok® Bolts are manufactured from alloy steel and are through hardened to give the same hardness from the tooth surface to the core. Durlok® Fasteners can be used at high temperatures up to 300°C.

Hexagon headed bolt with a flange. Also known as a washer bolt. The wider surface area beneath the head spreads the clamping pressure and negates the need for a washer. These UNC hex head flange bolts are serrated. The serrations are anti-rotational and bite into the material which they are connecting to secure the fixing.
